Description
"Whit Monday, June 4, 1906 [underlined] [p. 40 ff. On an official journey, in Kilwa, afternoon guest of Agricultural Inspector Mr. Knorre and his wife: KB learns much about indigenous crops (plants). List of plants and their uses] [p. 44] I was also given some ethnographic objects, which I of course gladly took with me: 1) a small canoe made from matama stalks [correction], crafted by a young boy. 2) a wind instrument from the Matumbi Mountains. The bell is made from a bottle gourd [drawing] 3) a bow of the natives from the Matumbi Mountains 4) poisoned arrows, 10–12 pieces. 5) two belts like those worn by young girls, made of glass beads. [p. 45] 6) a beaded apron for native women, quite pretty, strung together from colorful glass beads. 7) two small woven bags, made by a boy for his father's tobacco. 8) a leopard skin. In the evening, sat with the rest of the group at Hauck’s place." [translation]
