"Monday, November 2, 1908 [underlined] I worked on the paperwork. – Today I received various quite interesting ethnographic items. They were sent from the mission in Mlalo, where they were made by the natives. They include cigar cases, round and flat. [Two drawings] The material is Ukundu [?] (Phoenix reclinata Jacq. [?]) [cf. material inventory number KB 99]. The individual strips are dyed red, gray-blue, or yellow. The two sleeves of the cases can be slid into each other and are connected by a cord probably made from Sansevieria fiber. Small woven baskets, braided together from a thick spiral. The material is also Ukiudu [?], the colors are the same — 40 Heller each. [drawing] [p. 86] Two small black clay pipes — one has a head on the side, the other one has a head used as a tobacco container — 80 Heller each. [Two drawings] A piece of woven band, in the colors of the attached sketch, which is approximately 2.5 times enlarged (= 1 Rp. 60). In addition, Kingazi made me a fire-drilling stick, as it used to be used by the natives. It is simply a piece of Msaja [?] (Ficus exasperata Vahl). Small notches are cut into it & one rubs with a rounded stick of the same wood in a swirling motion in the groove. A fine brown charred mass is quickly produced, which ignites after a few minutes. [Two detail drawings with labels] Base / Fire drill stick. It probably works with any dry, soft wood. (10 Heller)" [translation]

See the file „Transfer of a colonial collection from the senior government councillor Professor Dr. Karl Braun in Stade to the City of Stade” („Überlassung einer Kolonialsammlung vom Oberregierungsrat Professor Dr. Karl Braun in Stade an die Stadt Stade") at the Lower Saxony State Archives Stade (Niedersächsischen Landesarchiv Standort Stade).

In 1997, the then city archivist Jürgen Bohmbach concludes a permanent loan agreement with the Museum Society Stade (Museumsverein Stade e.V.), for which the then director Gerd Mettjes signs. Thereafter, the collection from Karl Braun is transferred to the care of the Museum Society Stade (Museumsverein Stade e.V.).
