Herr Lorberg schenkte mir verschiedene Duplikate seiner ethnografischen Gegenstände, die aber alle urspünglich im Besitz von Herrn Hammerstein waren: geschnitzte Holzlöffel mit Brandverzierung [Zeichnung Seitenansicht und Draufsicht] / geschnitzte Holzlöffel mit Kerbschnitt sonst von gleicher Form und Größe [Zeichnung Draufsicht] Gesamtoberfläche [Zeichnung Detail] Einzelabteilung. / Tabakdose vom Markte von Tabora aus rotem Holz geschnitzt und mit Staniol [korrigiert] belegt. In der dortigen Gegend Mtigu [?] genannt und 25-30 Heller kostend. Sehr schöne sogfältige Arbeit. Alles was weiß ist, ist Staniol. Die kleinen Fläschchen bestehen aus zwei Teilen. Die untere läßt sich abnehmen und wird [S.15] auf diese Art das Innere ausgehöhlt [zwei Zeichnungen]. / Ein sehr schön geflochtenes kleines Körbchen. Ein schwarzes Muster ist eingeflochten. An Lehrer Urban einen Boten geschickt, welcher ihm mitteilen sollte, daß ich an dem Morgen zu Castaldi wollte an welchem Ausflug es sich zu beteiligen gedachte. The lower part can be removed and in this way the interior is hollowed out [two drawings]. / A very nicely braided small basket. A black pattern is woven in. In 1934, the former director of the Biological Imperial Institute for Agriculture and Forestry (Biologische Reichsanstalt für Land- und Forstwirtschaft) Karl Braun (1870–1935) gave the so-called “Kolonialsammlung Braun” (Colonial Collection Braun) to the Hanseatic City of Stade, or rather its representative, the then mayor Hans Arthur Meyer (1884–1961). See the file „Transfer of a colonial collection from the senior government councillor Professor Dr. Karl Braun in Stade to the City of Stade” („Überlassung einer Kolonialsammlung vom Oberregierungsrat Professor Dr. Karl Braun in Stade an die Stadt Stade") at the Lower Saxony State Archives Stade (Niedersächsischen Landesarchiv Standort Stade).

In 1997, the then city archivist Jürgen Bohmbach concludes a permanent loan agreement with the Museum Society Stade (Museumsverein Stade e.V.), for which the then director Gerd Mettjes signs. Thereafter, the collection from Karl Braun is transferred to the care of the Museum Society Stade (Museumsverein Stade e.V.).
